General Questions:

Who Comes to Belly Dance Retreats?
Belly dance is for women of all ages, sizes, walks of life and perspectives. They come for many reasons; fun, fantasy, fitness, freedom, cultural enrichment, healing, personal growth and to be better instructors. This retreat aims to facilitate the absolute beginner, the hobbyist and the professional performer who just wants to bone up, have fun and do some belly dancing in Hawaii with Delilah.

What are retreats like?
We will meet each morning and pursue the multifaceted art of belly dance with Delilah and her staff. Enjoy afternoon classes, pool, beach and sunshine. Relax with a massage, watsu, sauna or soak in the hot tubs. We also study Middle Eastern drum and rhythms and expand our music appreciation. Don't forget parties and performance opportunities!

Will there be performance opportunities? YES!
We always have a "Belly Dance Performance Day" built into each retreat, we want to see everyone perform that has a mind to in costume! Every year there is an eating verses performing issue. No one likes to perform on a full stomach. And the musicians need to take more of a break. So last year we came up with this great plan! We did 3 mini shows. ONE show before lunch, SECOND show before dinner, and a THIRD show after dinner. This way the audience gets to savor all the performances. Laura Rose will video tape the performances for you! There will be a sign-up for the 3 shows, each according to your level (beginner/intermediate/professional). You can dance to CD’s or dance live improve with the musicians on hand for the retreat.

Can spouses/significant others attend?
Sometimes family members or friends want to come but don’t want to dance. They can come as a belly dance support member. Everyone that comes on our retreat is considered a member of our group. All spots on our retreat are limited and all fees contribute to the overhead of holding the program. They can come as drum students and take daily drum classes with Erik during the day if they like. They get to eat sleep, relax, enjoy the facility, the natural beauty, and performances. It makes for a very memorable vacation. If they’d really rather be golfing and are not very supportive toward belly dance, we ask them to catch up with their loved one after the retreat. Questions? Call Delilah. 206 632-2353

Are Male Belly Dancers welcome on the retreat?
You are all very welcome to join us, but for obvious privacy reasons they will need to arrange for private room option if coming by themselves
.

Where do you hold your Hawaii Belly Dance Retreats?
…at Kalani Oceanside Resort, Hawaii

We will do all this in the tropical beauty that is the Big Island of Hawaii. The retreat facility is Kalani Oceanside Resort, situated on the remote Puna coastline across the street and stones-throw away from Kehena black sand beach. The word Kalani means heaven. It’s been solidly in business for over 20 years. The staff is professional and everything is imbued with the spirit of Aloha; perfect for the needs and goals of our program’s success.

What is the food like at Kalani Resort?
Every year our participants RAVE about Kalani’s food. They have delicious options for all diets that will keep you happy, energetic and satisfied. If there is ever a problem with food options, the kitchen staff is very accommodating. Delilah will also host a glass of wine with dinner when you arrive.

Does the resort have amenities?
Located on lovely grounds, 25 meter pool, sauna, hot tubs, watsu, sweat lodge, Kehena black sand beach across the street, wellness massage studios and gift store on site.

What about ground transportation?
We rely on Kalani and Ricks Adventure Service for island ground transportation. People really love it because we don’t cause so much ware and tear on the island and leave a smaller foot print. The ocean bluffs are across the street with a fire pit. A black sand beach is a walk down the road 1 mile.

All of our retreats have individual themes and guest instructors, thus the programs are always unique. Hopefully, all other questions are answered in the individual retreat details, but if not just give Delilah a call. (206) 632-2353

Retreat Specific Questions:

Is the retreat open to All Levels of Experience and Style of belly dance? YES!

• Absolute Beginners:
You will be assigned a personal mentor and coach from the Instructors Training course to assist you in understanding things you have a hard time with. This is a really ideal situation for you! You are also invited to come to any of the instructor training courses as a volunteer subject for the teachers to teach.

• Intermediate—advanced:
Our retreat is very experiential so it’s enjoyed by all levels of dancers and it’s very important to us to have all levels on dancers come together as a sisterhood. We are not interested in running a strict task mastering school if you know what I mean. Our emphasis is always on creativity and the artistic and personal growth we can make as dancers. Our classes are aiming to be especially progressive this year I am sure you will be inspired and challenged. We will be offering advanced versions of moves when we see you have them down.

• Advanced Professional:
We love it when professional dancers and/or instructors come to our retreats. They come from all over the world! We want you to share your beauty and dance with us. Pros come for inspiration sisterhood refresher courses or to get out of a rut and enjoy paradise!

Can I take a Drum Class during the retreat? YES!
We will have drums available to purchase and ship direct to Kalani for anyone who needs one. Erik prefers that the students copy the drum rhythms down in a note book as an exercise in learning them. Finger cymbals will be shown but not played at all drum classes. We also have them for anyone who needs them but we will send info about that in October.

Will I need a Power Belly Weight Belt?
Delilah's famous Power Belly Weight Belts are great to have on retreat! We will be learning to use them there. They help you learn faster and get in great shape. If you don’t own one but want to use one on retreat you can buy one and we will ship it directly there. More details to come. You will need to pre-order them because we do not bring extras (they are heavy).

Do you provide any type of printed materials?
Please bring a notebook to take notes. Delilah always prints a book of notes for everyone and there are two spiral bound manuscripts only for the Instructors Training Participants
