EXTRA RETREAT ITINERARY NOTES

Day One

  • Shuttle transporation and cars
Kalani is 25 minutes by car away from the nearest store and 45 minutes from Hillo. Most dancers take the shuttle from airport toKalani. Cost is $35 - $65 each way depending how many people they come into town to pick up. You make reservations when you have your flight itinerary established. The only other option is to rent a car. We are so busy and it's so beautiful where we are, that having a car is not a necessity. I think it's way more fun to go to the volcano as a group in one of the large Kalani vans than a bunch of separate cars. If you need supplies between airport and arriving the shuttle driver can be asked to make a brief stop at a all purpose store (have a list ready and move fast). Items people often want are wine or sodas to go with dinners . . .
  • 4:00pm Orientation
This is where the staff at Kalani introduces themselves and tells you about their service and the other offerings they have like yoga classes, guided nature walks, massage and watsu.
Watsu is a massage and energetic body work that is done in very warm water swimming pool. Sometimes they offer free 15 minute sessions. Most dancers love to take advantage of massage during their stay. $90 per hour.
  • House Keeping
They will change towels for you as often as you need and make beds. We are in the jungal so storing food in your room is a big mistake because it's an invitation for critters to visit, but there are refrigerators available. They rent snorkle gear and loan beach towels.
  • More about Kalani
Kalani has a small cafe and gift shop with some snack and toiletry items as well as wonderful gifts and artifacts.
  • Our more personal introductions will be after dinner.

Day Two

  • Neighborhood Temple Priestesses
Yes, this is my vision and name for the cause, but it's not about me being the boss. I do feel I am a good leader in this direction and thus am leading. We are doing good work in Seattle. I have much to share and pass on and I have a deep commitment to this work being taken seriously. Their are skills to develop and a presence to up hold. A retreat like this is an excellent place to cull the juices. Please come join us on this retreat and pass the word to other with like minds.

    Isis, Hathor, Good Queen Nefertari
    Fill my heart with love
So I may do good work.

  • About Drums
This year Erik will concentrate on frame drums. A great inspiration is the book When the drummers were Women by Layne Redmond. how ever if we have people interested in dumbeks Erik will accommodate them too. Some husbands may come and want to learn dumbek. Cool.

Day Three

This performance night will be organized closer to the start of the retreat (Dec/Jan) when most of the dancers are signed up to attend. You may volunteer to participate when sending in your registration, or Delilah may call and invite you to take on a dance role. It's meant to be fun and informative.

Day Four

  • Seafaring Costume Contest
The theme is: "In the Guise of the Goddess" so create a costume dedicated to a goddess inspiration. The rule is they must be sea worthy (and get wet). See details about costume construction in Alexandra's Library on http://www.visionarydance.com/Library.html
For those not so sea worthy inclined, we will have one catagory for "Earth Goddess" (stay dry and perform in the garden). We'll all dance and model our works to Eriks ecstatic music.

Day Five

  • Ritual Dance into the Sea
We get up early in the morning in costume and with drums and go to a brand new near by beach and great the rising sun. Very powerful experience. Of corse, it is weather and surf permitting. If early rising or ocean surf is not your thing, and you would rather dance in the garden at kalani, Delilah will support your alternative dance experience after breakfast at 9:00 am.
Note usually we video tape this event. However now everyone has video cameras in their phones.
  • Video
The point of this event is in the doing, living, breathing and dancing in real time. However it is fun to have a video of ones dance into the sea for posterity. We are looking for an official video person on this retreat that would like to take on this job. They would be responsible for taping, editing and distributing the videos on their own. It's no small task. This is always a extra and optional charge. The usual fee is $60-$75 a copy per person depending again on how many people want their dance videotaped. All proceeds go to the videographer. Call and talk to Delilah if you are skilled with the camera and want to talk about it. 206 632-2353

Day Six

  • Volano National Park is very amazing to see. Truly other worldly. The lava activity changes all the time. Sometimes it's very near and easy to see and sometimes all the action is under ground. There are other natural and astounding earth wonders to see and experience as well. Steam vents, hot ponds and crater lakes. The animal life is amazing: sea turtles, dolphins, whales, wild pigs and all sorts of beautiful birds.
  • Journey to Meet The Goddesses
For inspiration, and association, I recommended reading these two books by Jean Shinoda Bolen M.D.
    • Goddess in Every Woman
    • Goddesses in Older Women
    • Gods in Every Man

Day Seven

  • Performance Day
It's always a very supportive environment to perform in. We all want to enjoy each others gifts. The evening will be part performance and part interactive for the audience as we demonstrate some of our healing dance work for the Kalani Staff and visiting local dancers.
