IMPORTANT INFORMATION

When to Arrive at Kalani
Participants plan to arrive from world wide destinations by 1:00 pm on Sunday January 24th at Hilo Airport so you can easily make the first 4:00 pm class at Kalani (50 minute drive in the country). If you are coming from far away and need to arrive the night before to spin off some jet lag, we recommend you relax by staying at Naniloa Resort. They have a free shuttle (4 minutes from the airport) with a beautiful view of Hilo Bay, peaceful grounds and restaurants in walking distance. Don’t forget you don’t want to miss the first class!

Can husbands moms and other friends come with us on the retreat?
Yes. Because space is pre reserved and limited, they pay the same as everyone else weather or not they want to dance or drum. They eat , sleep, and enjoy the facilities, join us on field trips, read, relax, swim and clap a lot! Many husbands and moms have joined us over the years that did not do any belly dance, but had the time of their life! We love having them! It's money well spent for it's an experience unequaled to share with loved ones. If the significant other would rather be golfing and is not very supportive toward belly dance, a better solution is to hook up with them after or before the retreat.

Local Islander Options
If you are a Big Island resident and want to participate in full retreat but will drive back and forth and stay nights at home. Early-Bird-Price $1,195 paid before Oct 1st 2009. Includes Volcano Day excursion with group $1,300 at any point after. So please register early.

What to Bring (packing list!)
Neighborhood Temple Priestess are recognized by an official costume. White on White. Each individual costume is full of individual creativity. Something layered and shaped (but careful not to look like you are in your underwear). All my dancers comb thrift and yardage stores and are amazed how they can pull together things very cheaply and beautifully. Think textures like white silks, cotton gauze, crochet, embroidery, lace, lattice, ties, piping, upholstery fabrics. Be creative and use chain, coins and metal sparingly in your design. No sequins please. We use these costumes for group work. We wear them when we are officiating as a lead priestesses and candle dances. I’ll make a list of classes it will be appropriate for and by no means is it mandatory every class. We certainly love color and don’t always wear the official costumes.

  • Sea Faring Costume for the Sea faring Costume contest
  • 3 interesting 3-yard rectangular veils with no coins or paillettes on them

  • Layers are best because it can get cold at night and up at the volcano

  • Powerbelly Weight Belts (optional)
