ABOUT
THIS RETREAT (last updated July 22, 2009)
Please note this retreat is Sunday–Sunday,
January 24-31, 2010. We have just confirmed our contract with
Kalani and that dates are set!
We will study belly dance techniques
as well as enjoy strength and endurance building work outs along
side Delilah’s lovely inspired dance practices such as Veil Therapy,
Shadow Dance, Lotus Pool, Community Zarr, Prayer
to Istar, Hathor’s Dance, Dervish/Sufi inspired
practices, and Guided Moving Meditations.
Dancers are invited to create and share their own meaningful
dance works with the group. Many of Delilah’s visionary dance
inspirations over the last 30 years come from traditional multicultural
dances that are adapted and made into what she is now calling Neighborhood Temple Priestess Practices.
This retreat is for dancers who
hear the call and are interested in joining Delilah’s
Neighborhood Temple Priestess Movement. They may want
to start a branch in their town or city or just enjoy learning
and experiencing the flavor of belly dance for a week.
What is the Movement
About?
Many dancers around the globe instinctively feel and sense
a more holistic side to belly dance. Joining together we
strive to cultivate a strong and enlightened image of belly
dance in our modern day culture. To define an image and role
of belly dancer as a integral community resource.
Woman of
all shapes, sizes, ages and backgrounds who are interested
in exhibiting strong mentorship as wise women who belly dance
and care about community can become a member. The concept
behind the organizations is to perpetuate learning and display
powerful presentations using different belly dance styles,
ritual, theater, music, poetry, costumes, and props. Their
goal is to move hearts, share beauty, be a healing salve
and become known as valuable resources that the community
can turn to when situation arises in our neighborhoods.

Examples
The Temple Priestesses might facilitate at baby shower
for a woman in a tight spot without friends or resources, hire
out to make a wedding uniquely memorable, perform for a girl
scout meeting, officiate over wakes, ground breaking, senior
centers, children’s hospitals, healings, birthings, fund raising,
peace march, rites of passage and seasonal celebrations.
In addition to conventional belly dance techniques they learn how to dance from
deep within and move hearts. That will be the work we pursue on retreat
