The Complete Belly Dance Retreat! the Itinerary
Day 1 Friday, January 18th
Instructors Training course begins
Participants plan to arrive from world wide destinations by 1:00pm on Friday at Hilo Airport
so you can easily make the first class at Kalani (50 minute drive in the country).
Kalani check-in is at 3:00pm.
If you are coming from far away and need to arrive the night before to spin off some jet lag, we recommend you relax by staying at Naniloa Resort. They have a free shuttle (4 minutes from the airport) with a beautiful view of Hilo Bay, peaceful grounds and restaurants in walking distance. Don’t forget you don’t want to miss the first class!
4:00-5:30pm CLASS Power Belly Workout with Delilah and Erik.
This dynamic class is aimed at getting the travel kinks out and getting to know everyone’s dance energy.

Day 2 Saturday, January 19th
General Study and Instructor Trainees meet
General Study Dancers:
Participants plan to arrive as above for orientation and your first class at 4:00 PM

9:00-12:00 CLASS with Delilah / Instructors Training Only
12:00-1:00 Lunch
3:00pm Kalani check-in for General Study
4:00-4:30 CLASS for Full Group Kalani Group Orientation
4:30-5:30 CLASS with Delilah and Erik
6:00-7:00 Dinner
7:30-9:00 CLASS Drum and Dance with Erik and Delilah.
Group introductions and solo dances. The theme is dance as conversation.
Dress-up and introduce yourself through a short little dance to your choice of music from a CD or to Erik’s drum improv.
Don’t worry, if you are a beginner this is not a big strain. Use your imagination and sense of humor.
It’s just an ice breaker and an opportunity for creative dance. Also bring your drum and Erik will do his orientation to Arabic rhythms
Day 3 Sunday, January 20th
Rhythm and Alignment
6:00am CLASS Early Morning Grounding and Centering Ritual
(as seen on Delilah & Sirocco Live and Wilder on DVD). Walk to the bluff overlooking the ocean.
7:30-8:30 Breakfast
9:00-11:30 CLASS with Delilah
Basic alignment, transaxial method. Weight belt theory. Slow mapping of the internal realms of the body.
Reviewing all textural moves and layering principles of isolation work. Group dances.
12:00-1:00 Lunch

1:00-3:00 pm CLASS Instructors Training Only
4:00-5:45 pm CLASS Dumbek and Arabic rhythms with Erik Brown
Drums are so important to understanding belly dance. All dancers should have a working knowledge and experience with the heart of the dance
—the beats. Here is your opportunity, so do not miss it. Make sure you have a drum.
It is imperative for all instructors to be able to hammer out rhythms for their students in class and for choreographic use.
It doesn’t mean you have to become a professional drummer, but you must have a hands-on familiarity to know your onions.

Slow Moves of the Body and Soul: We will work on veil work, arms, hands and eyes. Chiftitelli, taxim and samai.
Day 4 Monday, January 21
Building Movement Vocabulary
The early mornings are amazing at Kalani; sunrise over the ocean, birds, flowers, beach and sunlight issue an enchanting invitation.

Belly Dance as Secret Language. Let us learn its sacred shapes and symbols as vocabulary.
A physical review of Delilah’s favorite steps from her eight video programs as well as lots of new ones.

Free afternoon for General Study beach, massage, pool, hot tub, journal writing.
1:00-3:00 pm CLASS Instructors Training Only
4:00-5:30 pm CLASS Dumbek and Arabic rhythms with Erik Brown. Practice and study rhythms.

7:30-9:30 Class with Delilah
Traveling steps, combinations and spatial design; the sentence structure of our dance.
Day 5 Tuesday, January 22
The Golden Age of Belly Dance

Arabic Music appreciation and historic review: 1930-1970’s The Golden Age of Belly Dance.
Dancing to the greats of our time: Fareed El Atrach, Rabbani Brothers, Abdel Halim Hafis, Mahamad Abel Wahab, Om Kolthum

Day 9 Saturday, January 26th
Giving Thanks and Reviewing our Dance
