Letter from Delilah

(October 2007)

Dear Dancers,
Because of the requests we get every year from local dancers, the following is a special itinerary we have arranged for serious students on the island who would like to attend our dance program, but stay over night else where.

A retreat is not a workshop. It is about forming a community in a small island of time together. The Islanders itinerary has been shortened so it fits into a shorter timeframe and financial commitment for dancers who are residents of Hawaii. You are still able to sign up for the full program, with over night stay like anyone else.

Many of you will still need to plan and take time out of your busy lives to attend just like all the participants in our full programs who come from all over the world. It cannot be reduced or lengthened in price or participation to be courteous to our facility and to the other participants who are making longer time and financial commitments to our program. We want to offer you a program of value and have you be a member of our group, rather than a drop-in out-sider. (Hope this makes sense.) Having dinner with us in important to the cohesiveness of the group experience. Kalani’s food is fabulous!

We request that you commit early, so we can seriously fold YOU into our plans. Much pre-planning goes into our retreats. We doubt there will be any room for last minute additions, save for the event of a cancellation (however the price will go up at that time).

(This means different instructors will be teaching 10-20-minute on all subjects.)
3:00-4:00 break and pool time.
4:00-5:45 Drum & rhythm class with Erik; bring drum and zills
6:00 Dinner
7:30-9:30 Slow Moves with Delilah. Please bring a veil

DAY 2
Monday Jan 21
1:00-3:00 Belly Dance Class with Teachers in Training
3:00-4:00 Break and pool time.
4:00-5:30 Drum and Rhythm class with Erik; bring drum and zills

7:30-9:30 Travel steps and Combinations with Delilah

DAY 3
Tuesday Jan 22
1:00-3:00 Belly Dance Class with Teachers in Training
3:00-4:00 Break, and pool time
4:00-5:45 Drum and rhythm class with Erik; bring Middle Eastern drum and finger cymbals.
6:00 Dinner
7:30-9:30 Techno /Fusion Belly Dance with Laura Rose

Day 4
Wednesday Jan 23
1:00-3:00 Belly Dance Class with Teachers in Training
3:00-4:25 Stage and Fantasy Make-up with Laura Rose
4:30-6:00 Belly Dance Music with Erik and Stephen Elaimy on Oud. Bring drum and zills, and other hand drums if you have. Possibility of other members of House of Tarab may be present.
6:00 Dinner
7:30-9:30 Live Music and Costume Parade Party.
Costume Contest open to full time participants only, but Islanders may be asked to be judges and perform (either on this night or the last night show). Everyone gets all dress up and dance to the live Arabic music.

Friday Jan 25th
1:00-3:00 Belly Dance Class with Teachers in Training
Break and pool time
4:00-5:00 Drum and rhythm class with Erik bring drum and zills
6:00 Dinner
7:30-10:30 Concert and Show

Show time 8:00 open to the public. $20 cover.
Delilah and the 6 piece Arabian music ensemble, House of Tarab, Laura Rose and Kalani Belly Dance Retreat participants.

NOTE:
Islander participants will either be performing during our costume night or the last nights show. It will be determined by the full number of dancers wishing to perform and divided into the two evening performances. Jan 23 & Jan 25.

Kunti Zaddi is sponsoring a workshop with Delilah and drummer Erik Brown in Hilo. This is on the Thursday before the retreat begins. We will be doing "Drum Solo For Dancers Plus More!". This is a class that will not be covered in the Islanders retreat program.

Studio Maui, Haiku, Maui
The lovely Mirayah Delamar is hosting Delilah with the entire 6 piece music ensemble House of Tarab (H.O.T.) and Laura Rose in a show Saturday and Sunday. Mirayah Delamar will also perform along with her Maui dance troupe. This all will happen in Haiku at the Studio Maui on Saturday and a party at Mirayah's new house and dance sanctuary on Sunday.

Andy Zadronzny Show Notes:
H. O. T is proud to introduce their newest member in their band Andy Zadrozny on bass. Also appearing with them is Dancer Laura Rose, a second generation belly dancer following in her mother (Delilah's) foot steps. However she is blazing her own trails in belly dance and dance theater. She dances traditional cabaret style as well as fuses wilder aspects of music, movement and costuming in theatrical fashion as seen in the new gothic belly dance performance DVD.
