If you love belly dance, you owe it to yourself to join Delilah on retreat once in your life!
Who Comes?
Belly dance is for women of all ages, sizes, walks of life and perspectives.
They come for many reasons; fun, fantasy, fitness, freedom, cultural enrichment, healing, personal growth and to be better instructors.
This retreat aims to facilitate the absolute beginner, the hobbyist and the professional performer who just wants to bone up,
have fun and do some belly dancing in Hawaii with Delilah.
What do we do?
We will meet each morning and pursue the multifaceted art of belly dance with Delilah and her staff.
Enjoy afternoon classes, pool, beach and sunshine. Relax with a massage, watsu, sauna or soak in the hot tubs.
We also study Middle Eastern drum and rhythms and expand our music appreciation.
There are performance opportunities, parties and a costume contest with prizes.
Where do we do it?
We will do all this in the tropical beauty that is the Big Island of Hawaii.
The retreat facility is Kalani Oceanside Resort, situated on the remote Puna coastline across the street
and stones-throw away from Kehena black sand beach.
The word Kalani means heaven. It’s been solidly in business for over 20 years.
The staff is professional and everything is imbued with the spirit of Aloha; perfect for the needs and goals of our program’s success.
What do we eat?
Every year our participants RAVE about Kalani’s food.
They have delicious options for all diets that will keep you happy, energetic and satisfied.
If there is ever a problem with food options, the kitchen staff is very accommodating.
Delilah will also host a complementary glass of wine with your evening dinner.
Can Husbands or Significant Others Come too?
Sometimes family members want to come but don’t want to dance. They can come as a belly dance support member.
We ask that anyone that comes on our retreat be a member of our group. It’s more fun this way.
Husbands can come as drum students.
They get to relax most of the day and take the drum and music classes in the late afternoon and enjoy the performances and evening classes. If they’d really rather be golfing we ask them to catch up with their loved one after the retreat.
Belly Dance Supporter Fee is -$250 less than the price paid by the dancer they are joining. Questions? Call Delilah.
Male belly dancers are very welcome, but for obvious privacy reasons they will need to arrange for private room option if coming by themselves.
Value
If you love belly dance you owe it to yourself to come immerse yourself in belly dance.
There is no richer experience than one of Delilah’s Belly Dance Retreats. Simply come, relax, enjoy and dance.
Leave the cooking, dishes, arrangements to us. Dancers return again and again.
If you count up all the hours of instruction, meals room, amenities and opportunities for growth you will see what
an amazingly affordable trip this can be. Don’t delay sign up today!
Space is pre reserved and limited and we have an easy payment plan so every dancer can make this a reality.
IMPORTANT NOTE: No one has to do all the exercise, classes or lessons. This is not about stress. We offer it up but you do what you feel comfortable doing. The beauty of Delilah’s retreat is the nurturing atmosphere. So if you need to kick back, watching is just as important to your learning.

Costume Contest and Ritual Dance into the Sea
Since 1991 Delilah has been leading dancers in a ritual dance into the sea.
The oldest meaning of our movement expression derives from nature.
This symbolic gesture is about connecting the belly dance with the primordial oceanic matrix.
Woman=Body=Vessel=Earth.
To celebrate we have a costume contest complete with prizes! Exercise your creativity and make this experience meaningful! This event is subject to weather and surf.
"Tropical Inspiration" is our theme.
We will be dancing outdoors, but it doesn't have to be sea-faring this year.
It could be dedicated to a gecko, a tropical fish, a butterfly, a mango, hibiscus, or a dolphin.
Your dance can be either in the sea or the garden.
The beach is a bit of a climb (20 feet or so) from the road. The ritual dance into the sea is not mandatory. If you are not sure of foot, you might want to pick dancing in the garden.
Laura Rose will videotape our dances, so we can watch them later. Personal dvds of your performance are possible to order from Laura Rose after the retreat.
Prizes will be awarded for costumes!

A bit about Delilah
Delilah is an internationally acclaimed belly dance performer and instructor of the "American Classic" belly dance style.
She grew up in Southern California, learning the dance form as it was passed on and popularized in this country by first
and second generation immigrants from Lebanon, Armenia, Iraq, Syria, Iran, Egypt, Israel, Turkey, Morocco and Greece.
When Delilah was 18, belly dance was fast becoming an American phenomenon. As thousands of women absorbed this dance by way of diverse cultural experience, a new style of American Belly dance evolved. Delilah is an active part of this transformation. While dancing in ethnic nightclubs, fairs, theater productions and folk style house parties for almost 20 years, she has learned many styles of dance, and has also learned about music, food, customs, religions, politics and people.
Her belly dance experience fuels her interest in studying the fields of mythology, archeology, history, women’s studies, bio/ecology, psychology, healing practices, and other movement forms such as Tai Chi, yoga, modern dance and movement therapy.
In 1978, Delilah moved her home base to Seattle, and began teaching and performing the dance all around the world. By the 90’s, she was disseminating her philosophies, techniques and performing artistry on a highly acclaimed instructional video series produced by Visionary Dance Productions.
These tapes cover a wide range of material: hip lifts, undulations, belly rolls, veil work, makeup, costuming, finger cymbals, conditioning exercises, philosophy, and include performances demonstrating a multitude of styles.
Her emphasis is always on health, creativity, and fun! Delilah supports diversity in the dance and enjoys all its styles; she sees the belly dance as never stationary, but always in a state of creative flux and growth. She encourages the student to examine and experience the dance in its variety of disciplines, in addition to openly sharing her technical knowledge with her students. Delilah imparts the idea that by opening our bodies to these ancient, earthly and natural movements that connect us physically, emotionally, and spiritually, we will become more aware environmentally. This gives the dance greater purpose...
"When we are more aware, we are better artists, enjoying a fuller life experience. When we stretch our awareness, we are more equipped to heal our bodies, our relationships and our earth."
Delilah’s Visionary Belly Dance Retreat is a unique and extraordinary experience. Dancers from all over the world, of all ages and all levels, from beginner to professional, join Delilah in Hawaii each year to retreat from the hustle and bustle of their everyday lives and dedicate their bodies and spirits to the sacred indulgence of music and dance.
They experience dancing, playing, learning, performing, practicing, celebrating, swimming, sunning, exploring, laughing, bonding with dancers and friends, new and old. This retreat is an opportunity to expand your belly dance horizons, to find the deeper meaning of dance in your life, and to have the time of your life doing it!
